Even though we still have to wait a couple of months for the newest iPhone 13 Pro Max to hit the stores, we have already heard some rumors about the expected specifications and features and we’re here to tell you that Apple’s newest smartphone is definitely worth the wait. Now, let’s dive into the details.
iPhone 13 Pro Max Specifications
As iPhone 13 Pro Max isn’t actually released yet, we can’t determine the device’s specifications for sure but based on leaked information and reliable rumors we can already draw an approximate picture.
1. Chip
A new generation of iPhones deserves a new generation of chips. Therefore, the device will reportedly feature the super-advanced A15 Bionic chip, which will ensure excellent performance and efficiency. The new system-on-a-chip (SoC) would be the successor to the powerful A14 featured in the iPhone 12. The development of the chip will reportedly start in May. However, when it comes to chips, we can expect a major upgrade no earlier than in iPhone 14, when the chip could be based on a 4-nanometer process node.
2. Storage
Storage isn’t expected to have a major upgrade over the previous models. Like the previous generation, the upcoming generation of iPhones is also predicted to have either 64 GB, 128 GB, 256 GB, or 512 GB of storage. However, some theories claim that it could have 1 TB of storage.
3. Software
A new generation of iPhones will come with a new generation of iOS – in this case, iOS 15. Unfortunately, there is virtually no information about this operating system currently available, but it should be revealed at WWDC 21 in June.
4. Wireless connectivity
According to some sources, Apple plans to use Qualcomm’s X60 5G modem in their upcoming iPhones. The 5nm X60 modem can integrate directly into a device’s chipset, which would result in a smaller footprint and decreased battery drain. The 5G performance should also be better, as the modem can combine mmWave and sub-6GHz 5G networks simultaneously. The device is also said to be Wi-Fi 6E-enabled, which means that it would support even faster Wi-Fi speeds.
5. Liquid crystal polymer circuit boards
According to some speculations and reports, iPhone 13 could adopt liquid crystal polymer circuit boards for imaging purposes. This would enable faster data transmission. LCP board and 5G connectivity could dramatically accelerate apps such as live streaming and augmented reality.
6. Battery and battery life
If the rumors are to be believed and if iPhone 13 is indeed going to be thicker, it would mean that it will have a larger and more durable battery. The device will reportedly come with improved battery life due to an extra efficient 5G modem and a new soft battery technology that could increase the battery capacity without making it larger. However, we have to keep in mind that 5G would drain the battery faster.
7. Charging
As the new generation of iPhones will reportedly have a portless design without a Lightning port and with wireless charging and data transfer, we can only hope that the charging will be fast. However, according to Bloomberg, the new iPhone will probably not feature reverse wireless charging, which would allow other Apple devices to be charged.
The new device could feature a new charging system held in place by magnets, which would enable wireless charging, but provide a kind of security.
Moreover, some analysts predict the new generation of iPhones to feature predictive charging notifications – a system, which would learn about your usage and charging habits and warn you to charge the device while you’re still in the right place.
iPhone 13 Pro Max Features
In addition to the more technical specifications, people are also curious about the features the new generation of iPhones will have. Here is what we know so far.
1. Design
iPhone 13 Pro Max is rumored to have a smaller display notch. Presumably, this will be achieved by combining the previously separated infrared flood illuminator, sensor, and dot projector, which are parts of iPhone 12’s Face ID unlocking system, into a single system. The smaller notch upfront could be achieved by moving the phone’s earpiece into the top bezel of the device and by moving the front camera from the right to the left side.
The model’s Touch ID sensor is rumored to be located under the phone’s display and the model is supposed to be slightly thicker.
Some experts also claim that one of the upcoming models will have a portless design without a Lightning port and with wireless charging and data transfer. Nonetheless, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has recently denied this theory, claiming that the MagSafe ecosystem is not mature enough.
2. Colors
When it comes to colors, leaked reports suggest that the devices will come in space gray, a new black matte, orange, and bronze.
3. Size
iPhone 12 came in 4 different sizes and iPhone 13 is expected to come in the same four sizes. In this case, we can expect to see a 5.4-inch iPhone 13 mini, a 6.1-inch iPhone 13, a 6.1-inch iPhone 13 Pro, and a 6.7-inch iPhone 13 Pro Max.
4. Display
When it comes to the size of the display, there will reportedly be three sizes – 5.4 inches, 6.1 inches, and 6.7 inches. In addition, iPhone 13 Pro Max will reportedly feature a 120Hz refresh rate, which will enable smoother scrolling, gaming, video playback, and overall performance. According to reports, the device will have an LTPO panel, which would enable an adaptive refresh rate without extra components and thus provide a thin chassis. There is also a theory that the device will have an always-on display.
5. Cameras
Camera updates are reported to be substantial. According to one leak, the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max will feature a new 6-element ultrawide lens with autofocus capability, which would dramatically improve the image quality.
Apple is also trying to improve the optical camera zoom and stack the lens vertically, which would increase the optical magnification without increasing the size of the device.
Moreover, the camera updates should improve night photography, facilitate a dedicated astrophotography mode, and deliver portrait mode videos with blurred backgrounds and customizable depth of field after shooting.
Based on another leak, the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max may get boosted ultrawide-angle camera lenses with sensor-shift OIS (optical image stabilization) and automatic focus.
The camera hardware will probably also receive a boost. The cameras may have larger sensors, which would mean larger pixels for increased light intake and therefore better-quality images. iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max may also come with larger apertures on the ultra-wide cameras – the aperture will reportedly be f/1.8 or even f/1.5.
iPhone 13 Pro Max will also feature sensor-shift optical image stabilization, which would result in improved low-light photography and the inclusion of LiDAR sensors on the iPhone 13 and 13 mini, rather than just the Pro models.
However, the Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that there will be no new camera lens for iPhones until 2022.
iPhone 13 Pro Max Advantages
If the leaks, rumors, and predictions are to be believed, there are quite a lot of upgrades in the store for the new generation of iPhones. Some of the biggest advantages of the new iPhone 13 Pro Max would include:
- The fastest chip of all times
- 1 TB of storage
- An LTPO panel display with a 120Hz refresh rate
- Improved camera
- Improved camera zoom
- Better charging options
iPhone 13 Pro Max Disadvantages
On the flip side, large improvements usually come with a toll to pay – sometimes in the shape of the price or the battery life. Here are some of the predicted downsides of the new iPhone 13 Pro Max.
- Even though Apple is doing its best to improve the battery life, 5G could still drain the battery faster.
- No reverse wireless charging.
- Although last year’s iPhone 12 models were very expensive, lower prices, unfortunately, don’t seem to be in the cards this year either.
iPhone 13 Pro Max Details
1. Release date
The release date for iPhone 13 Pro Max isn’t official yet, however, if Apple decides to follow its previous launch patterns, the device might be released on the fourth Friday of September 2021, which would be September 24.
2. Price
As always, the price of the iPhone 13 will depend on its size. As the model will presumably come in four sizes and as the prices will probably match the prices of the four iPhone 12 models, iPhone 13 mini will probably cost $699, the iPhone 13 $799, the iPhone 13 Pro $999, and the iPhone 13 Pro Max might cost $1099.
3. Name
Most people believe this year’s iPhone models will have the name iPhone 13, as the company went from the iPhone 11 to iPhone 12 last year. However, some speculate that the device may be called the iPhone 12s. iPhone’s ‘s’ models basically imply that the phone has a lot in common with last year’s model, except for a few improvements.
